At least 14 people were seriously injured in a gas explosion at a fast food restaurant in Kamukunji, Nairobi.

All the casualties of the mid-day incident on Monday, including an infant, were taken to Kenyatta National Hospital for further treatment.

Others injured include restaurant workers and diners who visited the eatery at about lunch hour.

A team of rescuers from St Johns Ambulance, County Disaster Response Unit and Police officers carried out a joint rescue operations.

"Preliminary investigations by the police confirmed that the explosion was not an act of arson," St John Ambulance communication manager Fred Majiwa said.
