MEMBERS of a matatu sacco operating between Nanyuki town and Nairobi yesterday expressed concern that it is headed for collapse.

They said the top leadership of Nanyuki Express Cabs wants to relocate its headquarters from Nanyuki to Nairobi without their consent.

Addressing the media in Nanyuki town, members Martin Ngunjiri and John Nding’uri accused the chairman and his team of running the sacco like a personal business.

They questioned the procedure and the amount spent in buying a new petrol station in the town.

“The sacco’s by-laws are very clear that the headquarters should be in Nanyuki. Whoever is contemplating to relocate them to Nairobi is ill-advised because that will not happen,” Ngunjiri said.

He said the sacco has 447 members and more than 130 vehicles which operate between the two towns daily.

Nding’uri said sacco officials bought the petrol station for more than Sh70 million in a deal with Engen, but the members were not informed.

They demanded that vice chairman Mwaniki Gichere, based in Nanyuki town, step aside to pave way for investigations.

Gichere was unavailable for comment.
