Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has urged Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to abandon the opposition and join President William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza camp ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mutuse claimed that Kalonzo’s current political allies are
plotting to sideline him.
He made the remarks during the official handover of the Kiaoni Police Post and a public engagement with residents at Kiaoni Market in Makueni County.
The lawmaker said politics requires leaders to anticipate future developments and position themselves strategically, urging Kalonzo to rethink his political alliances before it is too late.
"Kenyan politics is one where you need to organise yourself, where you need to see far and forecast. We have been looking far, and we want to ask our brother Kalonzo Musyoka to also learn to see far," Mutuse said.
He claimed that some of the opposition leaders currently working with Kalonzo were laying the groundwork to deny him the opportunity to fly the coalition's presidential flag in 2027.
"The people he is associating with are scheming against him. They have even started saying they want to rally behind a presidential candidate who has a lot of money," he said.
Mutuse further alleged that some opposition figures were also pushing for a younger presidential candidate at the expense of experienced leaders.
"They also do not want someone who is elderly, even if
he is experienced," he added.
The MP appealed to the former vice president to join Ruto's camp before political opportunities close.
"We want to ask Kalonzo for the second time, before the door is closed, join President William Ruto's team," he said.
Mutuse argued that Kalonzo risked suffering the same political disappointment he experienced during the administration of former President Mwai Kibaki.
"The people you are associating with betrayed you during President Mwai Kibaki's time. You were number two to Kibaki and he had promised to support you, but he did not. Now they want to betray you again," he claimed.
He warned that Kenya Kwanza would proceed with its political plans regardless of Kalonzo's decision.
"If you do not join us, we will move forward without you, Kalonzo," he said.
Mutuse also used the occasion to rally support for Ruto's re-election, asking residents to back both his parliamentary bid and the President in the next election.
"I want you to do me one favour. If you vote for me, give Ruto votes too. If I get 500 votes, let William Ruto also get 500 votes here," he told the crowd.
The MP credited the Kenya Kwanza administration for development projects in the area, saying residents were benefiting from the government's initiatives.
"I bring you goodies from Ruto, but the Opposition never brings you anything," he said.
Mutuse further urged residents of the Ukambani region to
support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), saying the region should align
itself with a party focused on development rather than divisive politics.
