Police said the first incident happened after a 55-year-old woman died after a tree being felled for timber fell on her in Kuria East Sub-County, Migori County.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 5 p.m. on Monday in Gibarori Village.
Investigators established that a man aged 27 was cutting down a tree using a power saw when it unexpectedly fell on Mary John, who had been hired to ferry already-cut timber.
The woman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Kehancha Sub-county Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers visited the scene, photographed and documented it, and recovered the power saw used in the operation as an exhibit.
The suspect fled immediately after the incident and remains at large. Police have launched a manhunt for him.
The body of the deceased was moved to Kehancha
Sub-county Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination as
investigations continue.
Elsewhere, a 54-year-old man died after he was struck by a falling blue gum tree while assisting in a tree-felling operation in Meru County.
According to police, the incident occurred on Monday afternoon in Kiengu Sub-County after Patrick Marira was called to help pull a rope used to control the direction of a falling tree.
Police said the blue gum tree accidentally fell onto him, causing severe injuries, including fractures to both thighs after the trunk struck his lower body.
Members of the public who were present attempted to
rescue him, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Police officers visited and documented the scene before moving the body to Nyambene District Level IV Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Detectives have launched investigations into the fatal workplace incident.
Meanwhile, a 13-year-old boy died after drowning in a
water-filled quarry within Ontulili Forest in Buuri West Sub-County, Meru
County.
According to police, the incident was reported on Monday afternoon after the body of the Grade Six pupil at Ontulili DEB Primary School, was found partially submerged in water at a quarry in Kathanje Village.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the boy had gone to the forest with his younger brother to collect firewood.
His father told police that Newton slipped from a cliff into a pool of water estimated to be about seven metres deep.
However, police said observations at the scene suggest the boy may have drowned while swimming in the quarry.
The water-filled quarry, which is located within Ontulili Forest, is reportedly leased to a private individual.
Police officers recovered the body, photographed and documented the scene before transferring the remains to Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary. The body had no visible external injuries and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Police in the area said they are investigating the death of an unidentified man whose badly decomposed body was found floating in a river.
The body was discovered on Monday evening in River Kithino at Kiejeru ‘A’ Village in Imenti South Sub-County after members of the public alerted authorities.
Investigators said the deceased is an unidentified
adult male of African descent. Due to the advanced state of decomposition, the
cause of death could not be immediately established. However, police suspect
the victim may have drowned upstream before the body was carried downstream by
the river’s current.
The scene was documented, and the body was moved to Kanyakine Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it will be preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
