Kitui Governor Julius Malombe has invested Sh9.6 billion in life-changing projects since he assumed office, according to the devolved unit.
The more than 1,000 projects cut across health, water, agriculture, education, transport infrastructure, sports, trade and commerce and security sectors.
Malombe said a notable achievement is the implementation of 676 community infrastructure development projects at a cost of Sh1 billion.
He said in the spirit of transparency and accountability, all projects implemented since 2022 will soon be published in a booklet and distributed to residents for scrutiny.
Malombe spoke during a retreat to review the implementation of the governor’s pre-election manifesto at a Mombasa hotel.
He said significant strides have been made towards equitable, high quality and affordable healthcare.
“At Kitui County Referral Hospital, a new outpatient department block is fully operational, with specialised services including an ICU, HDU, cancer centre, newborn unit and hemophilia clinic,” Malombe said.
He said piped oxygen had been extended to the wards, the ICU and HDU wards to improve critical care.
“At Mwingi Level 4 Hospital, the county has installed an oxygen generation plant, completed a 36-body capacity mortuary, equipped the amenity ward and procured modern rehabilitation equipment,” the governor said.
“Across all eight subcounties, 18
operational sump well schemes
now provide safe water to more
than 2,000 residents and are
supported by 115 high-yielding
solar-powered boreholes.”
