Man arrested, 14 goats recovered in Machakos

A man has been arrested and 14 goats were recovered in a stock theft incident in Machakos county on Thursday.

The suspect was arrested after the goats were recovered from a home where he works as a caretaker in the Viraj area in Katani, Athi River subcounty.

Also recovered from the scene was meat suspected to be of other goats stolen from a complaint who had earlier reported a stock theft incident to Mavoko SNP police station.

Police officers from the station swang into action after they received the report leading to the arrest and recoveries.

"It was reported by a resident that today 06/06/2024 at about 2.00 am, he had a case of stock theft. He stated that an unknown number of robbers raided his home at Ngelani village in Katani and stole 53 goats," a police report seen by the Star reads in part.

Officers from Mavoko SNP police station jointly with members of the public mounted a search and managed to recover 14 goats.

"A caretaker of the premise was arrested and is assisting in investigations," the report read.

The suspect was locked up at the same police station.

Police have launched investigations into the incident.
