The office of Deputy Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia will no longer be in the same building as Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s office.

The Star has learnt that Mutuma’s office has been relocated from the main County Headquarters to the old County offices.

The relocation was communicated via a letter by a chief of Staff Nchamba Mbithi that has been seen by the Star.

"Please cooperate with the Directorate of Accommodation for a smooth transition to the new offices for those affected by this relocation," Mbithi stated in the letter.

Other offices that will be domiciled at the old County Government Headquarters Annexe are offices of the County Public Service Board, Department of Trade, Tourism and Cooperative Development, Department of Youth Affairs, Social Development and Sports, Department of Lands, Physical Planning, public works and urban developments and Department of Agriculture, fisheries and Livestock.

It was not clear why his office was relocated from where it has been but those close to the two top County leaders say the supremacy wars are behind the move.

Mutuma has now accused his boss of gross incompetence saying the governor has been demeaning his office.

He said he is not facilitated in his movement to inspect projects and that officers working in his office are sacked illegally.

"My PA, office administrator and some other staff were fired," Mutuma spoke on Sunday at his Maua farm.

MwangazA has however disputed the allegations describing them as a "fightback of corruption".

According to Meru County Secretary Kiambi Atheru, politicians and some county staff who worked in former regimes are behind the wrangles being witnessed between the Governor and his deputy.

Kiambi, who spoke to the Star in his office on Thursday said some politicians are against Governor Mwangaza joining President William Ruto’s UDA party while others want an equal share and control of her government.

Mwangaza has already declared interest in joining the ruling party after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua pleaded with her

Kiambi said despite the outbursts, service delivery to Mwananchi will never be interrupted as technocrats and chief officers are on duty to ensure nothing goes astray.

He said some of the staff sacked in the office of the deputy governor were unqualified and that the governor was not responsible for the firing as the move was occasioned by the County Public Service Board.

He said one of the staff had access to IFMIS through assistance from an accountant thus leaking unverified information to tarnish Mwangaza forcing the administration to take necessary measures.

He said staff will no longer extend days time in the office but strictly adhere to the eight-hour working day.

"No one will be allowed extra time in the office but for their health and security everyone should leave the office by 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday," Kiambi said.

He said his office and other staff are on good terms with both the Governor and his deputy but the chain of command and hierarchy must be respected.
