A family is reeling in Igembe North's Kabachi village after three of its members were killed by bandits.

A witness who narrowly escaped death said 10 gunmen invaded the homestead and started shooting indiscriminately.

“The ambush was done by about 10 people on Monday night. We were surprised to see armed men surround the homestead and start shooting at anyone on sight killing three of our relatives while the rest of us ran for our dear lives,” said one of the victims.

They were bringing in the harvest when they were attacked.

On Wednesday morning, two men headed to Kubusera on the Meru-Isiolo border were attacked.

One by the name Murithi was shot and died on the spot in Lororo in the same constituency.

His friend called Mwenda escape with gunshot wounds and hid at Kaongo Ka Mpio in Amwathi where he was rescued by police.

He is admitted at Nyambene Level 4 Hospital in Maua.

Residents have called for a security operation to give farmers time to harvest their crops.

Athiru Ruujine MCA Julius Kabira, who visited the area, condemned the attacks and called for stern action to be taken to curb banditry attacks in the northern grazing regions.

He said they are tired of empty promises by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and area MP Julius Taitumu of security improvement.

In May, Kindiki held a public baraza at Ndoleli chief’s camp where he announced a raft of measures to flush out bandits.

He transferred two police commanders to facilitate investigations.

He also ordered the immediate deployment of an anti-stock theft police unit at Loloro.
