2,000 Isiolo households to benefit from Biliqi water project

The project will provide the crucial commodity to ensure the basic commodity is available to all.

At least 2,000 households in Isiolo will have access to free water after  Isiolo Governor Abdi  Hassan Guyo launched the Biliqi Water Supply project.

The project will provide the crucial commodity to ensure the basic commodity is available to all.

Governor Guyo reiterated that his administration was committed to ensuring that settlement areas are supplied with water.

"Water will be through the drilling of boreholes and piping, instead of the normal water trucking which is more expensive," he said on Wednesday.

The launch was part of celebrations to mark world water day.

The project has been implemented through a partnership between the Isiolo county government, CARITAS ISIOLO and USAID-NAWIRI.

The Biliqi water supply project entails piping from Korbesa to Biliqi, a distance of three kilometres.

The project will greatly lessen the burden on residents.

It also entails a 50m3 elevated steel tank, the construction of four water kiosks and one standpipe water point.

Water will also be supplied to Biliqi and Korbesa Primary, Korbesa Secondary, three mosques and Biliqi dispensary.

Guyo had earlier announced that his administration will use modern technology to drill boreholes in all strategic pasture grazing reserves and centres.

The boreholes will provide clean, saline-free water for human consumption.

Guyo said the technology will save time in detecting the right areas to be drilled.

"We want to introduce modern technology to identify water depth, quality and quantity before venturing into drilling," he said.
