Embu bishops have appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William to reconcile to avoid dividing Kenyans.
Led by their chairman Bishop Njeru Nyaga, the Embu National Council of Churches of Kenya said the ongoing accusations and counteraccusations might cause chaos.
“We urge the two to engage in peaceful negotiations to avoid initiating conflicts and enhance peace, especially during the campaign season,” Nyaga said.
He spoke on Tuesday after a council meeting in Embu.
The bishop said only the two know the source of their differences.
“We are deeply concerned about the rift between the two. Kenya is bigger than either of them and we urge them to tone down accusations and counter-accusations for a tolerant society,” he said.
NCCK member Gladwell Mercy Karungari urged the government to urgently intervene and address the rampant rise in the cost of living.
She said the rise has resulted in suffering and mental anguish among Kenyans.
Karungari said the government should cease borrowing loans to help in mitigating the rising prices.
“We urge the government to manage her appetite for loans and put measures to mitigate and manage the skyrocketing food prices and other basic commodities,” she said.
She said the government should tackle the corrupt officials independently to ensure Kenyans are not exposed to unnecessary cost of living due to corruption.
NCCK secretary Stanley Njogu encouraged Kenyans to vote during the general election.
He said they are responsible for electing the leaders of their choice.
