Embu elders have called for unity and urged politicians to unite and agree on demands to present to the president during his unconfirmed visit to the county.
Speaking in Runyenjes, the group slammed leaders for forsaking their people and instead focusing on their personal interests.
Embu Nyangi Ndiiriri cultural group chairman Andrew Ireri said leaders have failed to include Embu at the national cake-sharing table.
He said they are ready to welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta to Embu and requested to be allowed to speak for residents during his visit.
Ireri called for all leaders in Embu to unite and agree on the demands that every leader seeking support from Embu should meet once elected.
“We have been here for long. Our leaders have failed to engage well with the sitting government and the few who get there only consider their interests,” Ireri said
The group said they have confidence in the President and will back him in all his endeavours.
“Leaders should ensure whenever they decide to back someone for presidency they consider people’s demands,” Ireri said.
The chairman also criticised Embu MPs for engaging in premature election campaigns.
Group secretary Patrick Kamwega, for his part, accused local leaders of having poor development record. He said those already campaigning for the 2022 election have left residents on their own.
“We want to be in government to ensure there is development for our people and a solution to different issues affecting them,” Kamwega said.
