Villagers fearful after stray lioness kills two cows in Mwingi

KWS officers have been sent to Kiomo area of Mwingi West in Kitui to hunt a stray lioness that escaped from the Kora National Park.

Residents have expressed fears for the their school-going children who may be attacked by the beast. The lioness escaped from the park a week ago.

It has already killed two cows. Kenya Wildlife Service officers are looking for the lioness to capture it and take it back to the game reserve.

Kiomo residents said they were spending sleepless nights, fearing an attack from the wild animal. 

Musyoka Mwangangi said they had been following tracks of the animal for the last wo days after it killed an expectant cow belonging to his neighbour.

“We tracked it and came face to face with the lioness. It is very dangerous to human life and we fear more for our children,” Mwangangi said.

He asked KWS to hasten their search to eliminate the danger.

Kiomo Kyethani MCA James Musyoka said the situation remained dangerous with the lioness still on the loose.

However, area chief Daniel Chumbo assured residents the government was doing everything possible to hunt down the beast.
