FAST food outlets bearing the brand name Kenchic will no longer be allowed to use it from March 31, after the poultry processing firm withdrew the rights to do so.
In a letter to operators of the Kenchic outlets, the company's operations manager
said the firm has decided to withdraw the name of its brand Kenchic Inn due to rapidly evolving food market in the country.
"Effective the 31st March 2016, Kenchic Limited will discontinue the use of its brand Kenchic Inn...At the end of the period the Kenchic Inn brand can no longer be used or any of the Kenchic associated logo's brands or colours," states the letter.
Kenchic is a powerful brand which performed strongly in last year's leading Kenyan Superbrands ranking. The company was among the top 20 leading brands in the country and the second highly ranked brand under the food category.
Kenchic was ranked 13th with a score of 76.95 out of 100. The leading brands were judged on three core criteria namely, quality, reliability and distinction.incorporating the views of both marketing experts and Kenyan consumers.
Other food brands that performing strongly in the Superbrands rating were Mumias Sugar (10), Supa Loaf (16) and Farmer’s Choice (19).
The company supplies chicken to over 30 Kenchic Inns countrywide.
Kenchic Limited was established in 1984 after acquiring the assets of BAT Kenya Developments Limited in 1983. The company’s main processing facility is located at Tigoni in Limuru. Other Kenchic facilities are in Athi River
where it operates a broiler farm and hatchery,
and in Kajiado and Naivasha where it has a hatchery and six breeder farms.
It also has poultry centres in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Nyeri and a satellite shop in Meru.
Kenchic is the only licensed export slaughter house in Kenya for poultry products. Besides its branded inns, the company also supplies chicken to international franchises like Galitos, KFC, Java Coffee House, Artcaffé, Pizza Inn, airline caterers like NAS, supermarkets and leading hotels.
