Four people were killed in a grisly road accident in Masii on the Machakos-Kitui road yesterday afternoon.
Mwala police boss Henry Rukaria said the accident involved a 14-seater matatu that was travelling from Machakos to Kitui.
He said the vehicle rolled several times when the driver lost control after a tyre burst.
Rukaria said the four passengers died on impact and 10 others were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital, one in a critical condition.
Witness Caxton Kyuu told the Star the driver was speeding when the accident occurred.
Rukaria warned drivers against speeding, especially as they approach that stretch of the road as it is a blackspot.
“
We have experienced a lot of accidents along this stretch from Kitooni to Masii because the road is narrow. I'm calling upon drivers plying this route to be careful,” he said.
The dead were taken to Machakos Level 5 mortuary.
