Former Msambweni MP Kassim Mwamzandi laid to rest

The deceased died on Thursday evening while receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in Mombasa.

Former Msambweni MP Kassim Bakari Mwamzandi was on Friday afternoon laid to rest in his home in Msambweni constituency.

The deceased died yesterday evening while receiving treatment in one of the hospitals in Mombasa.

President William Ruto eulogised him as an icon of hope and development.

Through a speech read by Mining CS Salim Mvurya, Ruto said Mwamzandi's contribution has played a key role in transforming the lives of the Kwale people. 

Mvurya said he will remember the deceased for his good and exemplary leadership.

He said the 35 good years of service that Mwamzandi accorded Kwale people shall forever be etched in their memories.

"He leaves a legacy that will live forever," he said.

Governor Fatuma Achani said that the deceased leaves a legacy of good leadership and will be fondly remembered for his modesty and sense of duty during the times of his leadership.

She said Kwale people have not just lost a leader but a person of great wisdom whose contribution to development can't be ignored.

"On behalf of the County Government and the people of Kwale, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Mzee Mwamzandi. Farewell mzee, you will be remembered," she said.

Msambweni MP Feisal Bader recognized Mwamzandi as a man of wisdom, resilience, and unwavering commitment to his community.

Bader said the deceased has left an indelible mark on their hearts.

"Our hearts are heavy as we gather to bid farewell to a remarkable soul. We gather not in sorrow, but in celebration—a celebration of a life well-lived, of lessons imparted, and of love that transcends time. May his legacy continue to inspire generations to come," he said.

Bader said the former MP will forever remain a beacon of hope.

The deceased also served as an assistant minister during President Daniel Moi's regime.

He was in power for 35 years from 1963 to 1997.

Other leaders that were present are Kwale Senator Issa Boi, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir, Lunga-Lunga MP Mangale Chiforomodo and his Kinango counterpart Gonzi Rai and many more.
