Why being an IEBC boss is an uphill task, Issack Hassan reveals

This must be the dream job for many people.

However,  Issack Hassan narrates that the job of an IEBC chairman can be become the toughest position in the country.

The former IEBC chairman on Wednesday narrated his experience during his tenure, revealing he could have health attacks.

“When you are the chairman of the commission in a very critical time of the election, you are going to have a lot of anxiety. I used to have anxiety and panic attacks,” Hassan said.

Due to the intense job, he was undertaking, Hassan said he once fell in his bathroom after developing back pains.

“I developed back pains. I fell in my bathroom; I was overweight at that time. On social media, people went and said I had a heart attack,” he added.

Despite the health issues, Hassan noted that it was an honour to work in the public service.

However, he said being on the electoral commission is worse, and can be stressful and lonely.

“Being a chairman of the commission is very stressful and can be lonely sometimes at the top because you do not have a lot of people to confide in.,” Hassan said.

He also explained that anything you do or say in the position he used to occupy, can be misinterpreted.
