Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has said he is ready to take over from Nominated MP John Mbadi as the Chair of the ODM party.
His remarks come shortly after Mbadi said he was ready to step down from the position and allow others to lead the party.
"We wish you well Hon. John Mbadi as you step down from ODM Party Chairmanship. It is now my time to take over from where you have left off and steer the Party to greater heights and prosperity. Youth power," he said.
Mbadi on Tuesday said a group of ODM members were working to push him to step down, adding that they had orchestrated his removal as the Minority Leader.
He was responding to a sustained onslaught by a section of opposition leaders that he has been snubbing opposition rallies convened by Azimio's leader Raila Odinga.
"Those who think being chairman is so important to them let them offer themselves to lead. I am very ready to leave the position to them, right now I am the chair but I am not dying to be the chair," he said.
"I have done my bit they took away my position as the minority leader, I am still alive."
Speaking at the parliament buildings, Mbadi further said Raila knew of his plan.
He added that he would have long resigned had the party had a vice chairperson to run the party in his absence.
"I want to repeat it for the record, I want to leave this position for chair ODM," he reiterated.
Mbadi has been the party's chairman for nine years.
