Family, friends heap praise on Kasavuli during requiem service

Friends, colleagues and family paid a glowing tribute to the late media personality Catherine Kasavuli during a requiem mass held on Thursday at the Friends International Church along Ngong Road.

Royal Media Services through its editorial director Linus Kaikai said Catherine inspired the entire media industry and eulogized her as a woman of style.

"She witnessed all 4 revolutions of TV in Kenya. She was there when the laws for liberal airwaves were passed. She has seen it all," Kaikai said. 

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua mourned Catherine as an ever-smiling lady who was always available to help others.

"We used to meet with the family at the hospital. She was still wearing her infectious smile despite the pain she was in, "Karua said.

Radio presenter Jimmy Gathu said Kasavuli encouraged him to be unique adding that she groomed him as a media personality.

KBC acting MD Samuel Maina described her as a legend.

"When she reported, she said I am back home after many years, and I am ready to do good. And the wonderful Catherine did good, "Maina said.

Co-anchor at KTN Fayyaz Qureshi eulogized her as the best news anchor that ever graced Kenya's screens.

Allan Kasavuli, brother to Catherine thanked all who were present to mourn with the family.

The family said she was very obedient and respectful. Always supported her family members.

Rachel Kasavuli, the mother, said Catherine was the best of her children.

"As you go, pray for me. Anyone expecting a child, please name her Catherine," Kasavuli's mother said. 

Martin Kasavuli said her mother always wanted him to follow in her footsteps in media.

"Even when we didn't have much, we always had laughter," Martin said.

Martin called on men to take an active role in women in their lives regarding cancer and encourage them to go for regular checkups.

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba said a lesson everyone should learn from Kasavuli is to never bang on a door while leaving as you may need to walk back in.

Kasavuli passed away on December 29, 2022, night aged 60 at the KNH after battling cancer.

The final service for her sendoff will take place in her rural home at Tigoi Primary School on Saturday, January 14
