DCI officer charged with defilement freed on bail

He was released on a bond of Sh200,000 and a surety of a similar amount

A DCI officer attached to Magarini sub-county was on Monday arraigned in a Kilifi court to answer to defilement charges.

The officer, George Nangoye, pleaded not guilty to all the four charges levelled against him.

He was arrested on Sunday, December 18 in Marereni.

He appeared before Kilifi senior resident magistrate Geoffrey Kimang’a.

In the first count, Nangoye was charged with defilement contrary to section 8(1) as read with section 8 (4) of the sexual offences act number three of 2006.

The court heard that the police officer defiled the 16-year-old minor identified as S.R.F in September 2021 in Marereni, Magarini sub-county.

He also faced an alternative count of committing an indecent act with a child contrary to section 11 (1) of the sexual act number three of 2006.

He was also charged with another count of abuse of a position of authority contrary to section 24 (2) (c) of the sexual offences act number three of 2006

He was released on a bond of Sh200,000 and a surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Sh40,000.

The case will be coming for pretrial on January 11, 2023.
