Eldas MP-elect Adan Keynan is set to become the longest serving member in the 13th Parliament.
Keynan of Jubilee defended his seat after a fierce sibling battle with fellow Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya candidate Ahmed Boray of ODM.
He garnered 7,517 votes against Boray’s 6,838.
Salat Omar Haji of UDA managed 66 votes.
Keynan who was Azimio’s point man in the region becomes the only MP from northern Kenya to be re-elected for a fifth term.
He succeeds Kitutu Chache MP Jimmy Angwenyi as the longest serving member in the 13th Parliament.
Keynan is also the longest serving Parliamentary Service Commission member.
The Eldas election was however dogged by chaos after Keynan and Boray’s supporters clashed on the final day of the campaigns.
They accused each other of using the presiding officers and deputy presiding officers to steal the election.
The disquiet forced the IEBC to dispatch a team led by commissioner Abdi Yakub Guliye, to sort the issue as well as oversee the election.
The electoral team was also forced to postpone the election in the constituency to August 10.
An amicable solution was reached after Guliye met the two candidates, presiding officers, deputy presiding officers and elders to ensure smooth voting.
However, on voting day, violence was still witnessed in some parts despite the truce the previous day.
Vote counting and tallying was also affected by chaos that left some people injured, leading to delays in the declaration of the results.
On Thursday, Kenyan sent a congratulatory message to Governor Ahmed Abdullahi promising to work with him for the betterment of the residents.
“I would like to take this earliest opportunity to convey my warmest congratulations to Abdullahi and his Deputy Governor Ahmed Muhumed Abdi, for their resounding victory,” he said on Facebook.
Keynan said a win demonstrates that the people of Wajir have confidence in his performance, development and good leadership.
“It's my pledge, along with other leaders, to work with you and your administration to ensure that your manifesto and dreams for the people of Wajir are fully realised,” he said.
