It’s all-male assembly as Lamu's only woman MCA loses seat

Anab defended her seat this year, but lost to Njaaga of Safina

It’s an all-male county assembly for Lamu after the only woman MCA was defeated in the just concluded election.

Anab Hajji of Jubilee Party was the immediate former MCA for Hindi and was the only woman among the ten elected MCAs in the region, having been elected in 2017.

She defended her seat this year but lost to newcomer James Njaaga of Safina party.

As per the IEBC final list, the new Lamu county MCAs are all men.

They include Mkomani MCA Shekhuna Abbas (ANC), Shela MCA Azhar Ali Mbarak (ODM), Bahati MCA Francis Ngure Gakonga (Narc Kenya), Hindi MCA James Njaaga (Safina) and Hongwe MCA John Mburu.

Others are Mkunumbi MCA Paul Kimani Njuguna (Safina), Witu MCA Suleiman Farah (PNU), Faza MCA Mohammed Aboud Abubakar (Ford-Kenya), Basuba MCA Barissa Deko Bana (PDU) and Kiunga MCA Bwana Mohamed Bwana (UPIA party).

Out of the ten former MCAs, only three were able to retain their seats, while seven were shown the door by voters in their respective wards.

The three who retained are deputy speaker Njuguna, Mbarak and Bana.

Out of the seven losers, only five MCAs defended their seats but still lost.

The are majority leader Sheikh Abdallah Baabad (Kiunga), James Njuguna Komu (Hongwe), Yahya Ahmed Shee Basode (Mkomani), Anab Mohamed Haji  (Hindi) and Jonathan Mketta (Witu).

Two MCAs, Anthony Njomo Maina (Bahari) and Fahad Dini Adnan (Faza) opted for take a break from politics, and did not defend their seats.
