National Assembly Majority leader Amos Kimunya on Wednesday accepted defeat even before IEBC announced the official results.
The legislator took to social media to thank the people of Kipipiri, where he served as a Member of Parliament for the last 15 years.
"The people made their decision, which was different from our expectations. In a democracy, the will of the people prevails, and therefore I and #TeamKimunya will respect their choices," Kimunya added.
The MP claimed that Tuesday's elections were historic for Mt Kenya region, including Kipipiri, and will hopefully offer a moment of reflection.
"We did our best for Kipipiri, we are proud of our achievements, and that history will never be erased. The people have, however, made their choice and we respect it," he said.
Kimunya extended his congratulations to the winners and thanked all who supported his journey.
"We thank all who supported us in this journey. We appreciate that life is dynamic, shaped by constantly emerging and often surprising circumstances," he added
Kimunya clinched the seat in 2017 under Jubilee Alliance Party, dethroning former MP Samuel Gichigi who ran on the Alliance Party of Kenya (APK) party.
