The Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka has denied ditching the ruling Jubilee party for the Ford Kenya party led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.
This is after reports indicated he had decamped from the ruling Jubilee after a meeting with Wetangula.
"It has come to my attention that some misleading information is circulating on social media where it is claimed that I have joined Ford Kenya.
"Let me state that this is not true. What is true, however, is that today I met the top leadership of Ford Kenya led by my brother and Senator Moses Wetang'ula in Nairobi," he said.
The Ford Kenya party had also announced that the speaker had joined them.
"Senate Speaker Hon. Kenneth Lusaka, welcome to the great Ford Kenya Party," the party said.
The speaker, however, said his meeting with Wetangula was not about him joining the party.
He said the meeting was consultative in nature as he strategises on how to approach the August 9, General Elections.
"At no time during our meeting and discussion did I declare to have joined the party.
"This was purely a consultative meeting- one of the many that I am holding ahead of the dissolution of the Senate, as I weigh my options in the countdown to the August 9 General-Election," he stated.
He noted that he is yet to decide on which party he will join but said he will make an announcement when the time is due.
"When the time for me to make a decision as to which political party I shall operate within at the time of the elections, I shall gladly share that decision publicly with the rest of the country in the presence of the media," he said.
The Governor has already expressed interest in the Bungoma governor seat.
He was the first governor of the county before he was ousted by the incumbent Wycliffe Wangamati in 2017 polls.
