Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo.

Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo has mocked Governor Hassan Joho and his allies in Mombasa, saying they should not be intimidated by him and instead focus on serving Mombasa residents.

In a move likely to escalate his rivalry with Rashid Bedzimba, Mbogo said a man should be able to fight his own battles.

“You mean all the people in Mombasa came to Kisauni to fight Ali Mbogo? Seriously? Governor, Mishi Mboko, Omar Mwinyi and the other guy whom I felled – I don’t know his name. Seriously?” Mbogo asked on Friday.

He spoke during a party to celebrate the performance of Kisauni Primary School at the school.

Mbogo defeated Bedzimba for MP in 2017 but has now has set his sights on Joho's seat in 2022, after the governor completes his second term.

The previous weekend, Joho led Bedzimba, MPs Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Mwinyi (Changamwe), and his executive Tawfiq Balala (Transport), among others, on a tour of Mtopanga where they assailed Mbogo.

They said Kisauni residents made a mistake when they elected him instead of retaining Bedzimba.

Joho publicly declared his support for Bedzimba saying he voted for him in 2017 and will vote for him again in 2022.

After being out in the cold, Bedzimba is planning a comeback in Kisauni and has been vigorously campaigning.

In most of his campaign meetings, he has been accompanied by Joho, who took him under his wing and made him his political adviser after his 2017 loss to Mbogo.

Joho is widely believed to be behind the push by the Operesheni Fagia Bunge lobby, to collect 200,000 signatures from Mombasa residents to send the county assembly home.

The governor had publicly threatened to mobilise residents to send the MCAs home after they threatened to impeach some of his executives, starting with Balala.

On Friday, Mbogo said only the people have the power to decide who has served them well and who has not. He said politics is about delivering to the people and he has no issues with Joho or any other county politician.
