Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has put land grabbers on notice for intimidating poor locals and vowed to “deal with them conclusively”.
She spoke after visiting the victims who were left homeless after goons supervised
by police demolished the buildings in a disputed land, allegedly belonging to the National Housing Corporation. Reports indicate the police were executing court orders
“Tycoons and land grabbers will not be entertained under my watch in my leadership. I will stand with the people to the end. I will fight in court, and politically until justice prevails to the victims,’’ she said.
Penina Ndapatani, a widow who owned one of the rental building and a nursery school, said she invested all her retirement benefits in the projects and wondered how she would bring up her family after the loss.
Jumwa flew from Nairobi to Mombasa and drove to Malindi after receiving news that there were demolitions in her constituency on Monday morning. Jumwa protested the manner in which the National Housing Corporation, a government intitution, evicted residents without giving notice, terming it inhumane.
“I will not allow people to be evicted in such a way. I have engaged my lawyer who will follow up the matter.’’
Jumwa
said she would
go the National Housing Corporation offices in Nairobi to establish the truth about the court orders.
