Police in Malindi have arrested a televangelist for allegedly radicalising Christian and Islamic schoolchildren in his church.

It is alleged Pastor Paul Makenzi of Good News International Ministries was teaching 53 students aged between 10 and 35 years to shun education.

Police raided the church on Friday and rescued the students who had abandoned their homes and were following the pastor’s teachings.

Police recovered Bibles, Qurans, textbooks and files. Most of them are students who quit school.

Malindi police boss Matawa Muchangi said they nabbed the pastor after reports of extreme religious teachings that led to students dropping out of school.
