Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro has denied reports he intends to buy Coast-based Kadu Asili even as he continues to keep supporters guessing on which political party ticket he will use next year.

Recent reports in a section of the media alleged that Mung'aro and former Labour CS Kazungu Kambi, both of who want to vie for governor, plan to buy the party led by Kaloleni MP Gunga Mwinga.

Speaking in Kilifi town within his constituency, Mung'aro laughed off the rumours, saying they are tactics by his political enemies to destabilise his supporters.

"I have never thought of buying Kadu Asili. This is cheap political propaganda by my rivals who have gone into panic mode as they have been unable to predict my political moves," he said.

However, Kambi said he is interested in restructuring the party to give it a national outlook.

Gunga, who addressed mourners at three funerals within his constituency, urged Coast residents to support Kadu Asili.

He also urged Mung'aro to join the Independence party.

Mung'aro blamed his political opponents for the allegations even as he said it was too early for him to announce which party he will use to vie for governor next year.

Gunga, several MCAs and 2017 aspirants are marketing Kadu Asili, which is gradually gaining support from residents.

Kadu Asili is the only party with roots from the Coast that has a sitting MP and 12 MCAs in Kwale and Kilifi counties. This gives it an edge over other parties in the region.

The party has been the talk of the Coast region, especially after Gunga's elevation to CPG chair that came days after Kadu Asili fielded candidate Reuben Katana in the March 7 Malindi by-election.
