France headed Agala, Wacu, Makuto and Wangeci ready to return for Kenya duty

Kenya national women’s volleyball team players Brackcides Agala, Jane Wacu, Evelyne Makuto and Esther Wangeci who flew out to France yesterday to join Club Chamalieres have promised to avail themselves for the national team trials to decide the team to participate in the Africa Olympic Games qualifiers. The qualifiers are set for next month.

Club Chamalieres feature in the top French women’s league.

Makuto and Wangeci will be making their debut in the France league, while Agala and Wacu are returning to the French courts having played at Chamalieres last year.

The promise comes in the backdrop of a warning from Kenya Volleyball Federation chairman Waithaka Kioni that there will be no wild card entry into the Kenya team. All players will have to fight for the positions in the national team for the Olympic trials.

The Federation were forced to draft a second side that went ahead on to win the gold medal at the All Africa Games in Congo. The senior team proceeding to Japan to play in the World Cup.

Agala, who turns up for Kenya Prisons in the ongoing KVF league alongside Wacu and Makuto, said national team duties come take precedence.

She said: “Really, who doesn’t want to play in the Olympics? I am always ready and willing to feature for the national team.”

She howeever added: “As to whether or not I will be called up, the decision lies elsewhere and beyond me so I will have to wait and see.”

Setter Wacu said: “We have had a successful year in as far as international competitions are concerned and won remarkable trophies. I will always render my services to the national team whenever I am needed. The Olympics are a big event and I will always avail myself to do duty for the country.”

Makuto who was feted as the most valuable player at the Africa Cup of Nations Championship in June also said national assignments come first.

“I don’t see the reason why I should not honour the call up if I am drafted into the team. Who doesn’t want to play for her country anyway!” remarked the left attacker.

Kenya Pipeline women’s club right attacker Wangeci echoed her compatriots sentiments saying, “Definitely I will be ready to come back to play for the national team.

“When playing for your country there is that satisfaction that comes with it,” noted Wangeci. “I am excited and happy at the same time of going to play in France. I look forward to learning and gaining experience and exposure that will come in handy in future assignments.”
