Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi has been conferred with the International Eminent Peace Ambassador award
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has been conferred with the International Eminent Peace Ambassador award by the International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), in recognition of his leadership and development initiatives in the county.
According to a letter dated June 20, 2026, the association said Wamatangi was selected for the honour because of the achievements recorded under his administration since assuming office as governor.
The award was presented during a ceremony held in Nairobi on Monday.
IAWPA World Peace Spokesman P. Amb. Emmanuel Nkweke said the recognition was based on the governor's “giant strides and monumental achievements” in Kiambu County.
He further noted that Wamatangi is the first governor serving under President William Ruto's administration to receive the International Eminent Peace Award.
IAWPA said the recognition would also see the governor recommended to the international community for possible partnerships aimed at advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals within Kiambu County.
Speaking after receiving the award, Wamatangi highlighted several programmes implemented by his administration, particularly in the education sector.
“We have successfully built, operationalised and are now running 512 ECDE schools in this county. We started from zero and now we have done 512,” he said.
The governor added that the county government expects to complete a total of 550 Early Childhood Development Education centres within the next three months.
He said the county has also invested in solarisation of public facilities and street lighting as well as expansion of health infrastructure.
“We have a programme on solarisation of all public facilities and public lighting. We have also ensured that we build hospital infrastructure to international standards,” Wamatangi said.
The governor said his administration has remained focused on serving residents with commitment and humility since he took office.
“We have dedicated ourselves to serve the people of Kiambu with humility and commitment, using principles and values that guide us in leadership,” he said.
Wamatangi said his leadership philosophy is anchored on treating residents fairly and responding to their needs.
“When we are given this power to lead our people, the question that abides in my mind all the time is, supposing I was them, then what would I want to be done unto me? That is my guiding principle,” he said.
He welcomed the recognition, saying it was encouraging to know that the county's efforts were being noticed beyond Kenya.
“We shall treasure this and know that somebody somewhere sees what we are doing and knows that we are doing a good job,” Wamatangi said.
