Residents and business owners in Nyandarua County can now access banking services closer to home following the opening of a new Sidian Bank branch along the Gilgil–Nyahururu highway.

The Ol Kalou branch, Sidian’s 49th countrywide, is expected to serve the region’s farming and trading communities who for years have had to travel long distances to access full banking services.

The area, known for its vibrant agribusiness and growing small enterprises, has often faced challenges of limited financing options.

Speaking during the launch, Sidian Bank CEO Chege Thumbi said the new branch is aimed at supporting farmers, traders and entrepreneurs with affordable and accessible financial solutions.

“It reflects our commitment to walk the entrepreneurial journey alongside every farmer, every trader, every small business, and every growing enterprise,” he said.

Nyandarua Governor Moses Kiarie Ndirangu welcomed the investment, saying it will play a critical role in supporting the county’s economic ambitions.

“This new Sidian Bank branch is more than just a financial institution. It is a partner in Nyandarua’s journey to economic transformation,” he said.

“By supporting our farmers, traders, and small businesses with accessible credit and quality services, Sidian Bank is helping us unlock the full potential of our people.”

Some residents attending the launch said the branch would ease daily operations by reducing costs and travel time.

“As a farmer, I’ve had to travel to Nakuru or Nyahururu whenever I needed banking services. Having a branch here saves me time and money,” one local trader said.

The opening comes as Sidian Bank continues to record strong financial growth. The lender posted a 92 percent rise in profit after tax for the first half of 2025, reaching KSh1.01 billion, supported by higher interest and non-interest income.

Sidian Bank has also been investing in digital banking infrastructure but maintains that physical branches remain critical for rural communities. The Nyandarua branch adds to its growing footprint across central Kenya, where agribusiness and SMEs are seen as key drivers of economic growth.
