When we look at Kenya’s trajectory and study Jubilee 2.0, then we’d realise that if great care is not taken, it is possible “The Plan” –William Ru’s manifesto – may suffer big bottlenecks. These would be due to political constrictions, not an act of God but of man – the choreographed interests of both sides.
During campaigns, every administration should have a clear plan to implement its manifesto. But it also should create a canopy of minds, thoughts and interests through governance. It is improper for politics to get the material benefit of attention before anything else.
The end, thus, is already in plain sight. We are already seeing the binary polar positions [of the President and DP]. One is pulling to the north, the other to the south. When Mt Kenya MPs insinuated they will oppose the Finance Bill it was a sneak preview of a possible battle royal being planned.
Remember the same MPs have passed everything and anything without reading. Now that they are saying so, it tells you they are intentionally trying to sidestep their critical constitutional duty – legislation – and playing politics with legislation and representation.
That MPs are willing to do anything, not for the sake of governance, but for the survival of Ruto and Rigathi Gachagua, endangers the entire framework of governance stipulated by the Constitution.
That document states an arm of government, the Legislature, should play its role without being sucked into the intricate politics of the Executive. It should play blind and deaf as does the Judiciary. The Executive should also play deaf to what Parliament does.
Gachagua’s actions could stem from the President’s remarks that he would consider a woman running mate. Even so, the DP himself said he had set rat traps at State House, but it appears he entrapped himself.
This kind of turmoil works for Raila Odinga, and also creates fertile ground for compromises. One that seems inevitable is that Ruto and Raila will work together.
It is possible they don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet. The end game is here before us, that Raila and Ruto will unavoidably work together towards 2027.
