Tragedy has struck Mogoroka village in Nyamira county after a Form One student died by suicide.
The body of the 20-year-old student at the Bobaracho Secondary was found hanging on a rope in his house on January 15.
The family cited frustrations over the lack of school fees as the cause of the suicide.
Police visited the scene and moved the body to the Sengera Hospital Morgue for preservation and postmortem.
Meanwhile, a 48-year-old man has been admitted to hospital after a failed suicide attempt in Huruma, Nairobi.
The man had picked a quarrel with his wife over domestic issues when he threatened to take his own life on January 16, evening.
The wife, sensing danger dashed to Pangani police station and alerted security officers of her husband's threat.
The police accompanied her to the house where they found the man holding a bottle of poison and holding final prayers before he could kill himself.
The husband was found holding a blue carrier bag containing a container with poison and on spotting the officer, he proceeded to consume the content and dropped the bottle.
He immediately started convulsing before police rushed him to a nearby facility and he was later referred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for further treatment.
However, efforts are underway to decriminalise attempted suicide as a crime under the Penal Code.
Police said the trend has been worrying and increasing as up to two cases are reported daily.
The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.
Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
WHO rates suicide as a serious global public health issue that is among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
Kenya ranks position 114 among the 175 countries with the highest suicide rates.
