Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata has appointed new members to the county budget and economic forum.
Gazetted on November 24, the 11 members will advise the governor on economic development and the budgeting process as provided for by the Public Finance Management Act.
Among the appointees are Equity Bank founder Peter Munga, businessman Jimna Mbaru and Royal Media Services owner S.K Macharia.
Professor Zipporah Ng’ang’a who is the vice chancellor of South Eastern Kenya University was appointed to represent the academia while Dr Kanyenje Gakombe, the current chairperson of Kenya Healthcare Federation and Prof Macharia Muthuure, the current Equity Group board chairperson, will represent professionals.
Dr Salome Gitoho and Dr Felistus Njugua will represent women while Mary Gichohi, former principal secretary Dr John Mosonik and Prof Olive Mugenda will represent professional and external linkages.
Kang’ata said his administration is willing to partner with professionals to further grow the county through ideas and attract investors.
“We admit that we don’t have a monopoly of ideas and the law allows counties to form economic and budget forums to give advice that can help foster development,” he said.
The governor said those appointed are people who have connections and a vast exposure, and who can connect the county government to donors and help create jobs for residents.
