The Azimio demo planners dismissed police threats of arrests and a clampdown on the city setting the stage for a tension-packed day of protests.
Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome said he had not approved any demonstrations, but the planners responded by saying their civil action does not require police approval.
Azimio executive council chairman Wycliffe Oparanya notified the police of the planned demos.
