An insider said the decision to have the man market the candidate was a blunder for the party. The businessman hoards wealth but is known for spending as little money as possible on community projects and events. Residents detest the cheapskate. The man rarely contributes to funerals or education programmes yet he is among the wealthiest people in the county. The campaign team is understood to have asked the man to stay away from rallies lest resentment against him hurts the candidate.
