Security guard Shadrack Mutinda in a Kibera court on Friday

A security guard lured a minor to a hotel, bought him tea and chapati before sexually molesting him in a hotel toilet, a Nairobi court was told on Friday.

The boy (name withheld to protect his identity) said Shadrack Mutinda sodomised him on September 5, 2015. Mutinda denied the accusation.

“I had been sent by my mother to buy flour when I came across him. He volunteered to buy me tea and chapati and then took me to a place where other boys were on the floor watching cartoons,” the boy told Kibera senior resident magistrate Barbara Ojoo.

The boy said he fell asleep soon after taking the tea and chapati. "When I woke up I realised that I was in a locked toilet and I was bleeding from the anus. It was very painful,” the minor said.

He said the toilet door was unlocked by the accused. “The man who bought me chapati himself came and opened the toilet door for me. I then went home and told my parents what had happened.”

The parents reported the sexual assault to Kiserian police station and were advised to seek treatment for him.

The accused was thereafter arrested.

“I went to (a Nairobi) hospital with my father and I was treated for some days and discharged. Yes the person who did bad manners to me is here in court,” the boy said.

Mutinda denied the accusation and maintained that all he did was to assist the minor who had been locked up in a hotel toilet.

He said the minor insisted that he wanted to go home but he advised him against doing so as it was late at night.

"I found the boy and he told me he wanted to go home. I told him to it was still dark but he insisted he wanted to go home and I let him go," he said.

Ojoo granted prosecutor Nancy Kerubo’s request that the hearing resumes on October 29.
