Over 600 bright and needy students within Nyakach Constituency have benefited from Sh 8.2 million worth of bursey courtesy of the Liz Foundation.
Liz Foundation, a charitable organisation distributed the cheques to students from different schools within the Constituency on Saturday.
According to the Foundation Patron Nashon Angudha (Kuja), the needy students will be able to enjoy their right to education and thereby get a chance to pursue their dream careers.
Angudha stated that the journey has just begun and as an organization, they will ensure that they reach out to more vulnerable students within the Constituency.
He told the media that having been brought up and grew in hardship, he knew exactly what students go through when it comes to matters of fees hence his motivation to launch the drive.
"I decided to start this project so that we can change the lives of our people, have been there and I know how it feels," he said.
The patron added that the foundation which is now changing the lives of people within the area, was started in memory of her grandmother Liz who passed on back then.
"The journey is not stopping here, we want our children to go to school and become the cornerstone of our community and country as a whole," he added.
He added that already last week, a total of six students girls, from different schools within the Constituency were also given full scholarships.
The students, Angudha said will be sponsored up to the university level.
He also appealed to the beneficiaries to work hard in their studies, saying it was the only way to express gratitude to the organisation.
Gordon Owuor Onyango MCA East Asembo who was at the event told the media that this was a good initiative of supporting students who hail from vulnerable families.
Onyango said it's known that education is the equalizer of every living standard within the community, and once the students are allowed to get an education, then they are bettering the community and making a society which is equal in all standards.
"I want to thank Liz Foundation and its patron for deciding to support the education of the needy students and even the already fully sponsored girls, this is a plus to the society," he said.
He urged the patron to ensure that this project continues even if it is annually so that more students can access good education within the community.
One of the parents of beneficiaries Grace Achieng Ouma a widow said getting bursaries for her children has been a plus to her.
"Because of this foundation, I was able to see buildings at Oriwo Boys where I took my boy to school," she said.
She added that most of the time widows are left behind or forgotten but thanked the foundation for coming to their aid to assist their children.
Another beneficiary student Juma Edith, from Magunga Mixed Secondary School in Katito could not hide her joy when she was notified that she was sponsored.
She assured the foundation that they would not disappoint them in their studies and would continue to work hard to produce exemplary results.
"We thank the patron for helping us academically. We can't thank you more but pray that God continues helping you to reach more needy bright students out there, "she said
Apart from Education, the foundation is also looking into issues of Agriculture, Women empowerment, and people able different.
