A baby was burnt to death when their house caught fire in Kimana town on Sunday evening.

Loitokitok subcounty police commander Kiprop arap Ruto told the Star on Monday that the one-year-old child burnt beyond recognition in the timber house.

“This was an act of God, we cannot charge the woman for leaving her child sleeping in the house. No sensible woman would set her child on fire,” the OCPD said.

Ruto said a strong wind enhanced the fire and the woman who was cooking had gone to borrow salt.

Neighbours tried their best to put out the fire but in vain.

“Our investigations revealed that when she went to borrow the salt from the neighbours, she did not return immediately,” Ruto said.

Elsewhere in Simba Cement town in Kajiado South subcounty, a newly born child was found dumped inside a paper bag on Monday.

Police are investigating the matter with the local members of Nyumba Kumi to find the mother.

Ruto confirmed the incident and said they are investigating the matter.

“Those cases are more common in our local towns and we need to investigate them thoroughly,” the police boss said.
