unqualified practitioners.

The Institute of Human Resources Management conducted sweeps in several leading firms in Nairobi. It targets HR practitioners operating without certification from the Institute as required by law.

The Human Resource Management Professional Act 2012 requires all HR practitioners to be registered and certified by the IHRM before they can practise in the private or public sector. IHRM head of Quality Assurance and Compliance Wycliffe Nyakina led the crackdown. He said they aim to weed out quacks, who bring the profession into disrepute.

Enforcement officers were accompanied by police officers. They arrested a finance manager at Cosmos Pharmaceutical Company for working HR without certification.

Paul Njuguna was locked up at the Industrial Area police station but was later released on police terms.
