Kenya’s top food fortification companies have been recognised for their exemplary work in improving nutrition at the 2025 Kenya Millers Fortification Index (KMFI) Awards.
The ceremony, organised by the Cereal Millers Association and the Millers for Nutrition initiative with support from TechnoServe, was held at a Nairobi hotel and presided over by Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.
The event drew dignitaries from government, the private sector, and development partners, who came together to celebrate fortification champions and reinforce industry commitment.
The Millers for Nutrition initiative, launched in 2023, was designed to support and celebrate food processors that play a vital role in fortifying staples such as wheat flour, maize flour, edible oils, and rice.

By recognising companies that excel in this area, the initiative not only rewards commitment but also inspires others to follow suit.
“KMFI is a great collaboration that is industry-driven and works across the public, private, and social sectors. TechnoServe is committed to supporting and amplifying this platform that drives buy-in, productivity, and efficiency in fortification,” said TechnoServe Kenya country director Kris Ansin.
Ansin added that the awards were beneficial for all stakeholders since they highlight food processors whose brands can be trusted and who are prioritising fortification. “It’s good for businesses, consumers, government, and society as a whole,” he said.
The Kenya Millers Fortification Index (KMFI) is an industry-led, self-regulatory initiative that allows millers to assess their performance based on quality benchmarks.
Participating brands are ranked based on aggregated scores from self-assessments, product testing against food safety and fortification standards, and evaluations by an industry expert group.
Currently, the KMFI features 26 millers and 113 brands across wheat flour, maize flour, and edible oils.

By blending self-reported data with independent product testing, the KMFI provides what organisers describe as a fair and transparent measure of industry performance.
The initiative also supports Kenya’s nutrition priorities by working with the Ministry of Health to improve premix quality standards and supplier regulation, while collaborating with the Kenya Bureau of Standards to strengthen laboratory testing approaches.
By spotlighting best practices, the KMFI continues to inspire the industry and reinforce the importance of fortified foods in improving nutrition and public health across Kenya.
