The family of Odungi Randa, the newly appointed Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders, is mourning the untimely passing of his son, Obote Randa.
This sorrowful event occurred just two days following Odungi Randa's coronation as the 9th Luo Ker.
The coronation, held at Ofafa Hall in Kisumu County, was notably attended by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, along with other distinguished guests from the region.
Obote Randa, 43 years old, passed away on Christmas Day at their family home in Nyando.
His death was confirmed at Ahero sub-county hospital around noon on Monday, as stated by his brother, Victor Okach Odungi.
Obote was the second-born child in a family of seven siblings.
"Our brother fell ill a bit on Sunday and was rushed to Ahero Sub-county hospital but unfortunately we lost him," Okach said.
Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o has condoled with the family saying he received with deep sorrow, reports about the death of Obote.
"I am greatly saddened by this incident that has befallen Mzee Randa on a day we are celebrating Christmas", he said.
" It is heartbreaking that the late Obote has died at a prime age when we still need his services," he added
Nyong’o said although initial reports link this death to suicide, he wish to urge the police to urgently investigate this tragedy to confirm if it was indeed suicide.
"On behalf of the people of Kisumu County and my family, I wish to convey my heartfelt condolences to Mzee Odungi, his family and the people of greater Nyando sub-county for this big loss".
