Kenya will host another global conference next year after formally received rights for the 2024 International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) conference.

The announcement was made at the just ended IASP 2023 world conference in Luxembourg.

This comes as a boost to Kenya's drive to promote meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE).

The Luxembourg meeting primarily focused on the nexus between megatrends and the major role of science parks in enabling innovation and economic development.

The meeting was attended by leaders drawn from over 300 science parks and areas of innovation globally.

Information Communication and Digital Economy CS  Eliud Owalo a delegation that received Kenya’s flag, signifying the official handover of hosting responsibilities for the 2024 meeting.

“Winning the bid to host the 2024 World Conference is not just a momentous occasion for us; it is a testament to the progress, innovation, and unending commitment to the advancement of science, technology, and innovation in Kenya,” said CS Owalo.

With business travel back and 'work from anywhere' still in place, many business travellers attending meetings and conferences are sparing time for leisure a segment Kenya is looking to tap on.

The country has witnessed a rise in international conventions with the conclusion of the African Climate Summit and the continental gathering of the Project Management Institute conference in the past month.

“Our journey towards this moment has been one of dedication and resilience. It is a reflection of the tireless efforts of our visionary leaders, the dedication of our partners, and the hard work of countless individuals who believe in the power of science and technology to transform societies,” said Owalo.

Present at the handing over was Konza Technopolis CEO John Okwiri, who welcomed the opportunity to host the event in Kenya's emerging Silicon Valley.

The 41st IASP World Conference 2024 is themed "Demographics, entrepreneurship, and technology defining the frontiers of future economies".

Kenya is recognised as the economic, commercial, financial, and logistics hub of East Africa and has one of Africa's fastest-developing market economies.
