I helped Mau Mau veteran after Riggy G was unreachable - Raila

Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has said he had to pay the late Mau Mau veteran's hospital bill because the family could not reach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Raila said the hospital could not admit the Mau Mau veteran unless a certain amount of money was paid.

The Brigadier's family could not afford to pay the stipulated amount of money.

Speaking on Friday during the funeral of Mau Mau  veteran John Njigoya Kagwe, alias Brigadier Kiboko, Raila said he facilitated the payment.

"I told my doctor to call the hospital for them to admit him since I was to facilitate all the payments. He was admitted after they had looked for Riggy G and didn't find him but they got Baba," he said.

Raila said the Mau Mau veteran was in a bad state before being admitted to the hospital. Had he not been admitted, Raila said he would have been taken back home.

Raila and Deputy President Gachagua both attended the funeral of the late Mau Mau brigadier Kiboko in Nyandarua County.

Raila arrived at the funeral accompanied by a team including Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo.

A few minutes later, Gachagua also accompanied by his team arrived at the funeral.

Gachagua in a tweet paid his tribute to Brigadier Kiboko as he condoled with the family and friends for their loss.

"Paying my last respects to Mau Mau freedom hero John Njigoya Kagwe known as Brigadier Kiboko. With other fighters, Brigadier Kiboko valiantly fought for our freedom from colonialists. Today, we celebrate his immense contribution in the fight for our independence," he said.
