The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has flagged a fake press release on an alleged plan to disband parliament.

The Commission on Wednesday urged Kenyans to ignore the document, branding it as false and misleading.

IEBC went to its social media pages to stamp the statement as fake after it went viral.

The document attributed to Chairman Erustus had falsely claimed that the Commission is ready to conduct a mini-General election should the Supreme Court advise the President to dissolve parliament.

The fake post also claimed that the electoral agency is aware of the matter pending before the high court that seems an advisory for the dissolution of parliament for failure to comply with the one-third gender requirement.

According to the law of the land, any directive relating to the dissolution of Parliament would be strictly guided by the Constitution.

However, it's factual that retired Chief Justice David Maraga wrote to the then President Uhuru Kenyatta asking him to consider sending MPs home after the house failed to enact laws to address the gender question.

The fake claims came just two days after ODM leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto alleged that some MPs are receiving bribes to sink some crucial Bills in Parliament.

The Commission has always reminded the public to be vigilant against fake news, stressing that official communication would always be issued through its verified platforms. The notice included its website, official email, and social media handles.
