Business came to a standstill in Eldoret on Wednesday as hundreds of Gen Z youth took to the streets in protest.

Tension escalated after a separate group, described as goons armed with rungus, attempted to confront the demonstrators.

Police were forced to intervene, taking position between the two groups along Oginga Odinga Street to prevent direct clashes.

Traders quickly shut down their shops as the protesters made their way through the town.

The demonstrations began at the Eldoret main market, with youths marching peacefully through various streets.

Hundreds of police officers were deployed across the town as a precaution.

Despite the heavy security presence, the demonstrators remained peaceful, chanting slogans in unison.

However, tension remained high, prompting authorities to call in reinforcements from neighboring areas.
