Kenya is set to make history with its first-ever ITF World Ranking Beach Tennis Tournament scheduled to take place in Malindi this weekend.

32 pairs (16 men and 16 women) are expected to grace the tournament, which has drawn players from Rwanda, Spain, Germany, Uganda and Sudan.

One of the players in the event, Nancy Nduku expressed her gratitude to NOC-Kenya for giving her the opportunity by organising the games.

“Beach Tennis is a rapidly growing sport around the world and we are excited to see it gain popularity in Kenya. With its stunning beaches and perfect climate, Kenya is the perfect host for this tournament. We are sure that players and spectators will have an unforgettable experience,” said Nduku.

The 2019 Commonwealth bronze medalist Faiz Khan will be among the favourites when he teams up with German Torsten Salm.

All sports will play their preliminary rounds on Saturday, with basketball 3x3 serving as the evening's finale. All finals will be played on Sunday.

During the online competition for freestyle football, which lasted for more than a week, many intriguing videos were submitted and strong submissions were received from all around the country and fans requested to cast their votes with 'likes' on Nock's social media pages.

After Friday's deadline for entries, the technical team will choose the top three, who will be invited to Kilifi to compete for the top awards.

The Lake Victoria region is slated to host the second edition of the games later this year.
