Kenya Under -20 players will play for the Super Rugby franchises as part of their preparation for the World Under 20 rugby trophy in Scotland in July.

Chairman Alexander Mutai said the players need to play competitive matches to remain match-fit for the tough tournament slated for the Scottish capital.

“ Ideally, we would have loved to put them in one franchise to monitor them but due to logistical challenges, they will be spread out in all the participating teams."

The franchise teams include Rhinos, Buffaloes, Cheetahs and Lions with the players expected to join the Super Series tournament from next weekend.

Mutai said preparation would be vital and was hopeful of the team going into residential training camp either by the end of the month or early  June.

“I would love to commend the boys for a job well done in winning the Africa Cup but the stakes are getting higher and our preparation must be top-notch if we are to be competitive,” observed  Mutai.

Mutai has also asked the Ministry of Sports to help facilitate the team's training, allowances and kitting in readiness for the world event.

"I'm requesting the government,  through the Ministry of Sports,  to avail support for the team. This being a world event, we need the support of the  government

Chipu, as they are known, stunned Zimbabwe last weekend 28-13 to win the Barthes Cup for the fourth time despite a limited training period for the continental championship.

The side had beaten former champions Namibia 36-28 and thrashed Tunisia 56-17 on route to the decider.

Chipu will be playing at the world event for the third time, having hosted the event in 2009 and last year, where they qualified as hosts.

Head coach Simon Jawichre has asked for better preparation for the team, including kitting, training facilities and allowances.

“The championship is two months away and we have little time. We need several training camps to address some of the weaknesses we had in Zimbabwe and ensure we don't repeat them on the global stage,” said Jawichre. He said there is room for improvement in the kicking game and lineout.

The tactician said he was satisfied with the dominance at the scrum, where Kenya battered Zimbabwe in the final.
