Blak Blad's Rotich keen on line-out ahead of KCB showdown

Blak Blad ended Quins' unbeaten run with a 9-3 victory last weekend and Rotich expects his charges to be as ruthless against former champions KCB this weekend.

In Summary

• "If we win all three matches, then we can be in the playoffs. It will be an achievement for a team that was the league's whipping boys not too long ago,” observed Rotich.

• Elsewhere, Kabras Sugar duo of Ntabeni Dukisa and Derrick Ashihundu lead the Kenya Cup scores after matchday six.

Blak Blad coach Bernard Rotich believes improvement in the line-out will be key in securing a Kenya Cup playoff spot at the end of the season.

Blak Blad ended Quins' unbeaten run with a 9-3 victory last weekend and Rotich expects his charges to be as ruthless against former champions KCB this weekend.

However, the coach acknowledges the tough 'Thika Road derby'.

"It will be a tough match. We want to get one over them and with our dominance in the scrum, it gives us a good chance. However, our line-out has not been up to par but we are working on it," said Rotich.

The Kenya University students are fifth on the log with 14 points and with clashes against fellow varsity outfit, Catholic Monks, Nondies and Homeboyz coming up they are in a strong position to qualify for a first-ever playoff.

"If we win all three matches, then we can be in the playoffs. It will be an achievement for a team that was the league's whipping boys not too long ago,” observed Rotich.

He loved the fighting spirit showed by his charges against the big boys especially the 23-19 defeat to Menengai Oilers.

"We pushed Oilers quite close recently and if we can be competitive against the top sides, then who knows... we can grab a win,” noted Rotich.

Meanwhile, Rotich wants the Kenya Rugby Union to rule on their abandoned match against Kisumu.

Referee Constant Cap stopped the match after he was allegedly subjected to verbal abuse by the home bench.

The match was stopped 10 minutes to time with Kisumu leading 17-15.

"I hope the judicial committee makes its ruling soon and we are handed the points," said Rotich.

Elsewhere, Kabras Sugar duo of Ntabeni Dukisa and Derrick Ashihundu lead the Kenya Cup scores after matchday six.

Dukisa leads with 60 points, 10 clear of teammate Ashihundu in second.

Beldad Ogeta from the Menengai Oilers is third with 45 points followed by Catholic Monks' Samuel Omollo (39) and KCB's Austin Sikutwa (38).
