Menengai Oilers coach Gibson Weru has said the best is yet to come from his charges following a good start to the Kenya Cup.

The Nakuru-based outfit are fourth on the log with 15 points after winning all three matches with bonus points. The tactician believes his side will get better with every match.

“ So far, so good. It's a positive start to the season and the boys have played well. We have taken our chances and defended well but there is room for improvements in certain aspects of our play which I believe you will see in the new year,” observed Weru.

Weru charges have so far dispatched Homeboyz 43 -17, thrashed Mwamba 67-0, and edged Strathmore Leos 27-10 in hard fought match before the Christmas break.

Oilers will face cross-town rivals Nakuru in their fourth match of the season in a fortnight when the league resumes.

Our rivals Nakuru will be a tough test because we know what they bring to the table. It's a derby match, which is very emotional but we must play in the right areas of the pitch to win,” added Weru.

The former Kenya Sevens playmaker welcomed the return of Sevens' star Dennis Abukuse from injury.

“He is a good defender, very versatile, and knows how to read the game. With the run of matches coming in this month and next month, he will play a key role," he added.

Abukuse suffered a head injury during the national Sevens circuit and missed the Impala Floodlit tournament and pre-season. The coach believes he will get better and be ready for the remaining season.

"The Strathmore game was his first. He looked rusty but we hope he will get better as the season continues," he noted.

Weru said they will take one match at a time with the league still in its early days yet.

“I'm not going to get carried away. There is a long way to go and so many teams to play," added Weru.

Following the match against Nakuru, they host Blak Blad RFC and close out the month with a match against Kisumu RFC. Oilers are expected to resume training this week for the match against Nakuru.
