Champs NCPB, Water Queens to lead Kenyan onslaught at regional show

Champions National Cereals and Produce Board (men) and Nairobi Water Queens (women) will lead an eight-team Kenya assault at the East and Central Africa Handball Club Championships that tips off Sunday in Nairobi

Charles Omondi, the ECAHF secretary, also revealed that teams from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Tanzania have confirmed their participation.

“All the six countries have confirmed their participation. We are waiting for a confirmation from the Democratic Republic of Congo,” said Omondi, who is also the Kenya Handball Federation secretary.

“We will have the technical meeting on Saturday, where we will do the draws with the tournament throwing off a day later.”

NCPB and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will parade the men and women’s teams. Others are General Service Unit (GSU), Equity Bank and Black Mamba.

NCPB men defeated Ngome of Tanzania 24-18 to reclaim their title while fellow national champions Water Queens beat compatriots NCPB 25-21 in an all-Kenyan final in Zanzibar last year.

Omondi said Rwanda Police, Rwanda Army, Uganda People Defence Forces (UPDF), and Jeshi La Kujenga Taifa from Tanzania are among the entries received so far.
